Bought my start up cultures and pods from reef legends as they were recommend to me. There was a 3 day shipping delay on fed ex end not reef legends part. Once I recieved everything I informed them on the delay and sent picture asking if cultures were still viable. Was told it was a 50/50 and they would send a complete order back out. I didn't want them to just eat the cost so I needed and everything took perfectly. No need for a new shipment and extremely happy with product and service. Highly recommend. If I start new strains I will be a repeat customer. Bottle are high quality also so using them for back up culture which is nice.

Want the most color enhancement strains? Here's your solution! Get all our color enhancing strains bundled together, Rhodomonas salina, Rhodomonas lens & Porphyridium cruentum.
If you are getting our 3, 16 ounce bottle package this option will have the longest shelf life as each species is harvested and bottled individually, we recommend using these bottles within 14-30 days for maximum benefits. Rhodomonas salina is the first phytoplankton that has cell nutrition change. To keep Rhodomonas healthy longer leave by the lightbulb in the fridge to keep the cells active.
Our "The Reds" blend should be used within 14-21 days of arrival and stored away from the lightbulb in the fridge. This will help keep the cells dormant, not competing with each other.
Porphyridium is an easier to grow red algae, seems fairly hardy and has a bright pink red hue. Higher airflow is critical for this culture, lower airflow causes the cells to clump and the culture to crash. Known for its fatty acids, lipids and polysaccharides for color enhancing properties. Has a high concentration of phycoerythrin, zeaxanthin (carotenoids), phycoerythrin (accessory pigment to the main chlorophyll, color enhancing cells), ALA fats (Alpha-linolenic acid), EPA fats (Eicosapentaenoic acid). Unique properties of this phytoplankton is the polysaccharides are sulphated. Porphyridium is commonly used in the aquaculture community to bring red colors into other filter feeders, like marine rotifers & copepods. Porphyridium also has a high concentration of antioxidants.
Rhodomonas is an important strain of phytoplankton for the pigments the strain contains including phycoerythrin which is known to intensify the color of corals and fish when fed to rotifers, brine shrimp and pods.
